Yewande Omotoso
Yewande trained as an architect and holds a masters in Creative Writing. Her debut novel Bomboy, won the South African Literary Award First Time Author Prize. Yewande was shortlisted for the 2013 Etisalat Prize for Literature and was a 2015 Miles Morland Scholar. Her second novel The Woman Next Door was shortlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award and longlisted for the Baileys Women’s Literature Prize.

Two fiercely independent octogenarians, Hortensia (a Black textile designer) and Marion (a white architect), have spent years locked in mutual loathing across a hedge in post-apartheid Cape Town. An accident forces them to bridge the gap, peeling back layers of prejudice, bitterness, and loss to discover unexpected kinship.
