Gaelle Bellem

Gaëlle Bélem is a writer from Réunion Island. She is the author of There’s a Monster Behind the Door, longlisted for the 2025 International Booker Prize, The Rarest Fruit: The Life of Edmond Albius, and the short story collection Sud Sauvage. Alongside her writing, she teaches Latin, History and Geography and serves as an associate judge in a juvenile court. Her work draws on the history, folklore, and lived realities of Réunion Island, bringing its stories to readers around the world.
